Apple and IBM Seal Deal On MobileFirst for iOS

Apple and IBM sealed-a-deal in an attempt to dominate the enterprise market with collaborative industry-specific applications built exclusively for iOS. This partnership is a win-win for both companies because Apple gets an advantage on the enterprise front and IBM gets to show off its analytics and apps with specialized business IBM software.

Apple and IBM will create more than 100 vertical focused enterprise apps built exclusively for Apple products. In other words, your iPhone and iPad will come preloaded with industry-specific apps from IBM. Now, consumers are getting the best of both worlds: Apple products with specialized business functionality.

The goal is to eventually provide distinct Apple products equipped with industry-specific tools for businesses in healthcare, banking, insurance, retail, travel, and transportation. The software being created just for iOS will stem directly from the needs of current business clients.

The IBM software will include private app catalogs, productivity suites, data security services and IBM’s cloud services all on your favorite Apple devices.

Apple Benefits:

Apple’s iOS share is currently competing with Google’s Android share in the enterprise space. With this deal, Apple move closer to securing iOS market share in the enterprise because of its industry-specific apps.

IBM Benefits:

While IBM’s benefits are the lesser of the two, they still will play a significant role in consumerization. IBM’s cloud services, which include analytics and security, will be optimized for iOS. IBM is now able to embed its analytics tools in iOS apps, associate itself with Apple’s outstanding reputation, and spread the industry-specific apps into major corporations.
