Google Is Fighting Back In The Cloud Wars

John Biglin, CEO | July 10, 2014

Competition is scorching hot between Google, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services who are all battling for cloud services supremacy. The cloud wars are getting fierce now that Google is offering 2 terabytes (TB) of free storage on via its public cloud service partner, Panzura, for one year.

Microsoft recently announced its OneDrive service would be distributing 1 TB of free storage for paying customers, which is significantly more than Amazon’s cloud offerings of 5 gigabytes (GB). Google also offers 15 GB of cloud storage to Google Drive users. Google is not going down without a fight.

In order to utilize the free storage, customers must install software from Panzura, which is one of Google’s partners that connects to the Google Cloud Platform. Panzura is free of charge, but not without restriction. Panzura is only accessible from one location and requires a paid subscription for more privilege.

Cloud storage services are desired among enterprises because it allows businesses to store sensitive information within on-site systems, but use the public cloud for file sharing, backup and disaster recovery. While these major conglomerates are battling over free storage prices, customers are reaping the benefits and anticipate eventual free storage.
