Microsoft Excel is Introducing a New Mobile Feature to Speed up Data Entry

Microsoft continues to evolve the functionality, usability and features of Office 365 and Microsoft 365.  Every month there are new updates to the various parts of “365” related apps and features.  Here is a new one that many people will find helpful!

It is rarely fun when you have to capture information from a whiteboard and transpose it into a spreadsheet. The days of retyping information that was hand written or drawn out on an office whiteboard are over with the new Excel mobile feature.

“Insert Data from Picture” is a new feature from Microsoft that enables you to snap a picture of a table – either hand drawn or printed – and then the information in that table will be automatically converted and inserted into a spreadsheet you have open.

This can be very helpful when you are working with someone on a whiteboard to develop a table of information.

To use this feature, just follow these simple steps:

1. Tap the “Data From Picture” icon on the bottom of the mobile screen in the Microsoft Excel app on your smartphone
2. Take your picture with your phone camera while making sure to keep your data inside the red borders

3. Crop it to your liking by pulling the red box corners wider or smaller, in order to fit the data desired in your spreadsheet
4. Tap the edit icon at the bottom of the screen.

5. Proofread the data to ensure it is correct. If there were any issues in the conversion process now is your time to fix it, otherwise tap ignore if you are satisfied.

6. Press Control-S to Save the Excel file

This update is sure to make your data entry even easier!  This feature is currently available to users who have an Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription and are running the latest version of Microsoft Excel.
