What’s New in Microsoft Teams?Brooke Keyser, Marketing Coordinator
Microsoft Teams is a chat-based collaboration tool that provides global and remote capabilities for various businesses within Office 365. It gives organizations the ability to work together and share information via a common space by employing the use of one-on-one chat, team chat, online meetings, shared conversation threads and many other features.
Microsoft has built a new integration between Outlook and Teams to make it easy to collaborate no matter where you are located. Users can now move a Teams conversation from Teams to Outlook by clicking on the more options icon (”…”) in a conversation. Users will then be able to move an email conversation from Outlook, inclusive of attachments, into a Team chat or channel conversation.
Teams now offers targeted communication to specific team members who
are tagged at the same time. Simply mention the tag name in a post. Using these tags, team owners can now organize users based on a common role, allowing great flexibility in Teams communications.
If your organization is 5,000 users or less, you can now bring everyone in your organization together with an org-wide team. With this team, global admins may create public teams that incorporate every user in the organization and maintains a current, up to date, membership.
SharePoint now powers the Team file experience. According to Microsoft, this new experience in the “File” tab includes the ability to sync files to your computer.
IT Admins can now manage apps from the Teams admin center. This page provides admins with a view into all apps.
Phone system enhancements continue to unfold as well. Teams users can screen share to Skype for Business users, directly transfer to voicemail, use caller ID, and Chrome users can send and receive video calls.
There is a new Power BI tab in Teams. This new tab adds support for reports in the new workspace experiences, reports in Power BI apps, and paginated reports. When the tab is added to your channels and chats, it is easier for everyone to find and track the data they need to achieve their objectives.
You are now also able to pin your favorite and personal apps to the Team apps bar. Find the app, right click the app icon and select “pin”. This is very useful for those of you who are consistently using specific apps, such as Planner.
Last but not least, Teams offers the QBot solution. This is designed for classroom teaching, allowing teachers and students to answer each other’s questions from within the Teams platform. The QBot is deployed to a Team and a student can ask a question on the channel by tagging @QBot. QBot will respond with the correct answer or tag a group.
Microsoft continues to deliver on their strategic roadmap of enhancements, and we will continue to monitor, post, and break down those features as they arrive.
